About
An insider's perspective on how children learn, grow, and thrive.
Dr. Pamela Brown is the Lower School Psychologist at Trinity School in New York City — one of the oldest and most prestigious independent schools in the country. With nearly two decades of experience in private school settings, she brings an insider's perspective on the social, emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges students may confront.

Prior to her work in independent schools, Dr. Brown worked for the School District of Philadelphia in an administrative capacity, training principals and assistant principals and providing crisis response and triage services to schools and students. She has published and presented to audiences on a variety of topics related to child development, mental health, and school dynamics.
For 15 years, she was a consultant to the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles and clinical coordinator of their Rookie Success Program. She also maintains a private practice serving families, couples, and individuals.
She writes a monthly blog in Psychology Today primarily for parents, sharing what she has learned from working with teachers, administrators, and students to help children be more successful in school. Her posts cover both common and less predictable situations that can occur Pre-K through 12, and how caregivers might best address them. Teachers may also find it useful, and may share articles with families.
Now in its third year with more than 100,000 views, her writing combines clinical insight with a pragmatic, down-to-earth style that makes complex school dynamics accessible — helping parents understand not only what schools do, but how and why they do it, and what they may need to do in response.
Her work focuses on helping parents understand and respond to the often unspoken dynamics of their child's school experience.
